Powering Malton’s Decarbonised Business Park
Energy Square is entering an exciting new phase. As part of the Circular Malton & Norton initiative, we are evolving into a fully decarbonised business park—a showcase for energy independence in Great Britain. By combining community-scale Anaerobic Digestion (AD) with solar arrays, heat pumps, and wind technology, we are creating a circular blueprint for the future of industry.
A Multi-Technology Energy Mix
While our core remains the conversion of local food and biowaste into biogas, Energy Square now integrates a suite of renewable solutions to power and heat the park:
- Community AD – Converting food waste from local schools, shops, and manufacturers into renewable heat and electricity.
- Solar and Wind – Harnessing roof-mounted solar and wind turbines to diversify our green energy output.
- Heat Pumps – Utilities advanced thermal technology to provide clean, consistent heating for all occupants.
The Circular Energy Private Network
By “plugging in” to our private energy network, businesses can decarbonise instantly without the burden of upfront capital costs. This model offers:
Local Impact
Energy produced in Malton stays in Malton, helping our town flourish while eliminating the carbon costs of long-distance transmission.
Price Security
Fixed, transparent energy rates that remain unaffected by volatile global markets.
Bio-Based Fertiliser
The AD process continues to produce nutrient-rich bio-fertiliser, supporting our local farmers and replacing fossil-fuel alternatives.
A Beacon for Green Growth
Beyond the technology, Energy Square is an economic engine. It creates local jobs, hosts an on-site educational centre for the next generation, and serves as a national “showcase” for how circular economies can drive business success.
